The Mechanism really stepped up and got the project elements from video + photography, posters and show dates organized so that viewers were well aware of tune-ins, and able to buy tickets to the live recordings of the shows all in one place, effortlessly it seemed. And on top of all of that, the site looked amazing and created a real buzz for the show.-Shayne Ivy, Creative Director, Decades Rock Live
Decades Rock Live was taped at Trump Taj Mahal’s high definition television studio in Atlantic City, NJ until August 11, 2007. Shows focused on a specific legendary artist (e.g. Bonnie Raitt, Ray Manzarek, Cyndi Lauper, Scott Weiland, Heart), paired up with artists who were inspired by them (e.g. Fiona Apple, Ani DiFranco, Kings of Leon, Perry Farrell).
The music performances were augmented with special features, such as Decades Confidential, exclusive behind-the-scenes interviews with artists, focusing on their career milestones and highlighting their newest releases, concert performances and other endeavors. Decades Rock Live segments will also include ‘Fan Factoids’ from viewers sharing their knowledge of music facts and figures, incorporated as pop-up quotes and trivia in every episode.
The Mechanism worked closely with executive producer Barry Summers at World Productions, LLC to create the definitive online presence for the live concert events and subsequent television airings on various MTV–owned networks and High Definition Television.
Site visitors were presented with a simple drop–down navigational structure combined with a rough, branded look and feel derived from existing original poster designs by artist Shayne Ivy, and The Mechanism’s appreciation of classic and modern rock and roll artwork and style.
The speed of production and design can be attributed to cleanly-executed code and testing, which enabled The Mechanism to quickly build durable templates that could be updated on the fly in conjunction with the show’s development.
